There are a variety of factors that affect how long a residential garage door installation should take. It can take about three to four hours to replace a door of the same type and size (for a door of roughly 16 feet). If the new door is compatible with the structure and available space, and your existing wiring and brackets are in good condition, installation is simpler, depending on the size of the door, this can be done in less than 3 hours

  • Durable steel garage doors available in 3, 2 or 1-layer construction. Insulation options include 2″ or 1-3/8″ Intellicore® polyurethane, 2″ or 1-3/8″ polystyrene or 1-5/16″ vinyl backed polystyrene insulation available. Insulated door R-values from 6.3 to 18.4. The steel skins are protected by the use of a tough, layered coating system, which includes a hot-dipped galvanized layer and baked-on primer and top coat.
  • 4-layer construction including durable, composite, steel, and Intellicore® insulation.
  • 5-layer construction: steel + insulation + steel + composite cladding + composite overlay.

Insulated garage doors make the most difference in homes with attached garages, especially those with bedrooms above or next to the garage. They can also make a difference in detached garages since they make the indoor temperature more comfortable. Insulation adds an extra layer of durability and protection to your garage door. A well-insulated garage door will keep your garage at a consistent temperature, often saving you money on energy bills. This energy efficiency is also better for the environment.

Depends on what type of door do you have. Regular residential steel doors should have serviced at least once a year if no other issues arise. Custom doors/Wood doors/Insulated heavy doors Our team advise you to service once per 5-6 months. Service technicians prolong the life of your garage door with preventative maintenance: lubricating areas of the door, tightening bolts and screws and adjusting spring tension.

Depend in what type of garage doors springs do you have. The typical Torsion spring system that we can find at most of residential, if correctly installed, should last about 10,000 cycles of opening and closing. If you only go in and out of your garage once a day, that means you should expect a broken garage door spring between 10-12 years after the spring is first installed.

Before you can adjust your garage door, you have to know in which direction it’s out of balance. To do this, you’ll have to disconnect your garage door from your opener and check how well the door hangs on its own. Run the door up and down a few times to make sure it moves easily in its track — you’ll need to deal with other impediments before making a balance adjustment. With your garage door moving smoothly in the tracks, run it up about half way and let go. Does it hover in place, fall to the floor, or slide upward? More than a little movement means your door is out of balance. Most commonly, doors fall down because they’ve lost tension on their springs. In another hand, if your door running up, yours springs has over tension.

Please note: adjusting a garage door can be a dangerous affair

SAFETY FEATURES OF GARAGE DOORS AND OPENERS

  • Auto-Reverse
  • Safety Eyes
  • Motion Detection
  • Manual Control
  • Annual Maintenance
  • You, By Yourself

AUTO-REVERSE:
In the 1980s and early 1990s, as many as 54 children lost their lives due to automatic garage doors that didn’t reverse or stop when met with resistance. Hundreds more ended up in the emergency room with serious injuries, and thousands of pets were hurt or killed. For this reason, since 1992, garage doors are required by federal law to have so-called entrapment protection. Nowadays, this protection is most often provided through the auto-reverse feature.
The auto-reverse feature is one of the most crucial garage door opener safety features. It works as follows: Your garage door is equipped with special sensors that detect whether something or someone is obstructing its trajectory. If it detects an obstacle, the door stops closing and automatically reverses to
the open position. You can test whether your garage door’s auto-reverse feature is working properly by placing a sturdy two by four underneath the door, where it meets the ground when fully closed. Close the door. When the door touches the board, it should automatically reverse. If it doesn’t do this but instead keeps moving downward, the auto-reverse feature isn’t working, and you should contact a garage door pro as soon as possible to get it fixed.

SAFETY EYES (safety sensors):
Garage door openers come with infrared safety eye protection systems to “see” when a person is in the path of the garage door. These safety eyes are equipped with specialized filters for accurate readings. The safety eye is mounted six inches off the ground on each side of the door. It’s important for them to
be set up correctly and be the proper distance off the ground to work as they should. You can test to make sure your safety eye is working by opening the garage door, then placing a board or stick between the two sensors. Press the button to close the garage door. If your safety eyes are aligned and in good condition, the door should start closing and immediately reverse.

MOTION DETECTION:
Motion detection is a garage door safety feature that offers additional security in two ways. When a vehicle or person crosses the path of the motion detection sensors that are installed in the doorway, the garage lights automatically turn on and stay on for between four and five minutes. This feature provides you with good lighting so that you can get out of your car and into your home without stumbling over something or otherwise hurting yourself. It also helps with home security, since any burglar or other criminal trying to enter your home via the garage will trigger the motion detection sensors and cause the lights to come on. As home security experts advise, quality lighting is one of the best burglar deterrents!

MANUAL CONTROL:
If you’re asking yourself, “Why would I want manual control on a motorized garage door?” you’re not alone. However, there’s a very good reason all garage doors come equipped with a manual control feature. Imagine the following scenario: There’s a power outage, and you need to get your car out of the
garage to go to work. Without power, the electronic motor isn’t going to work, and you’ll be stuck at home. However, if you know how to operate the manual control, you can bypass the motor and open the door by hand. You do this by using the override feature to disconnect the garage door from the electronic
system. Since the door remains on the tracks, you can simply lift it by hand. Then, when the power is back on, you can reconnect the electronic system.

ANNUAL MAINTENANCE:
Now that you have an understanding of the various safety features of your garage door and opener, it should be clear that they need to function properly at all times. That’s why you need not only annual garage door maintenance but also annual garage door opener maintenance. Both should be performed by a qualified professional. If you don’t have your door and opener serviced properly at least once a year, then your garage door lift mechanism and opener are unlikely to remain in good working order. And that, in turn, could result in
damages and accidents – not to mention costly repairs and a shorter lifespan of the products, which require you to replace your garage door and opener years sooner than necessary.

You, By Yourself:
Your opener has safety features, but you also need to be safe in the way you use your garage door. To ensure others who use the garage are also aware of garage door safety, share this article, keep remotes out of reach of kids, and make sure they understand that the garage door isn’t a toy.
